Nintendo just announced that the Wii sold 3.19 million units worldwide in 2006, just short of the promised 4 million units. 1.25 million were sold in North America, 1.14 in Japan and 800,000 in Europe. Nintendo also revealed some Virtual Console stats; 1.5 million games were bought and downloaded, where 1.4 million consoles are hooked up to the Internet. They’re still on track to ship 6 million before the end of March 2006. This, combined with the success of the DS, contributed to record profits in 2006 for Nintendo.
